The J1 Visa Exchange Visitor Program, in the USA, welcomes nearly 280,000 visitors each year from outside the United States. CGE offers the Exchange Visitor Professor category J-1 visa for our participating USA member campuses to invite overseas faculty for teaching, collaboration, and research. The J-1 visas also offer opportunities from our Member universities and colleges overseas to recommend faculty or graduate students who may want to have an Exchange Visitor experience in the States. The period of stay for Exchange Visitor Professors can be from 6 months to 5 years.
While in the United States the Exchange Visitors are hosted by one of the CGE participating members as the Site of Activity. Each participant becomes enriched by learning about higher education American institutions, as well as having cross-cultural experiences with American families and businesses.
Exchange Visitor Professors are bright, motivated, and show leadership skills in their home countries. They return home to advance their careers and achieve great things in their cities and communities while keeping in touch with their American friends. Many often refer other faculty and sometimes return to study for advanced degrees.
This CGE program is a vital tool to share educational expertise, build mutual understanding and create trust between Americans and citizens from other countries. This program offers exchange participants a hands-on experience to learn about US society and culture while sharing their own culture and perspectives with administrators, faculty and students on our member campuses.
CGE members can select an applicant known to them for this Exchange Visitor Professor program or request that CGE help them find applicants that match their campus needs.
